The Department of Organic Chemistry is part of the Faculty of Chemistry and admits students at both the Master's and PhD levels.
Department Overview:
The Department of Organic Chemistry at Razi University is one of the prominent and active divisions within the Faculty of Chemistry, dedicated to education and research in organic compounds and related chemical reactions. With experienced faculty members and advanced laboratory equipment, the Department offers an ideal environment for graduate and doctoral students.
Research activities include synthesis and identification of organic compounds, reaction mechanism studies, development of new synthetic methods, investigation of physical and chemical properties of organic materials, and the design of novel catalysts and photocatalysts for organic reactions. The Department also conducts applied research in pharmaceutical chemistry, environmental chemistry, and related industries, and maintains extensive collaborations with domestic research centers, industries, and international universities.
The Department’s primary goal is to train skilled and committed researchers who can contribute to the advancement of organic chemistry and address industrial and environmental challenges. Through seminars, workshops, and specialized courses, the Department fosters scientific exchange and enhances knowledge among students and faculty.
The Organic Chemistry Department at Razi University is proud to operate under the leadership and collaboration of several distinguished and specialized professors in the field. These faculty members, with outstanding academic and research backgrounds, play a key role in advancing the Department’s educational and research objectives and improving the quality of instruction in this specialized field.
Professor Kiumars Bahrami, full professor and Dean at the Faculty of Chemistry, is a leading figure in organic chemistry in Iran. With a PhD in organic chemistry and years of teaching and research experience—especially in organic synthesis and reaction mechanisms—he is widely recognized. Professor Bahrami has led numerous research projects and published extensively in reputable international journals. He is among the most cited researchers at Razi University and has been listed among the top 2% of scientists worldwide since 2021, according to Scopus. He plays a constructive role in enhancing the academic level of the faculty and department and has supervised many theses, dissertations, and student research projects.
Professor Avat Taherpour is another respected and active faculty member who has made significant contributions to Organic Chemistry through the development of novel synthetic methods and compound design using computational chemistry. Recognized as a top researcher in national and international scientific communities, his work has notably improved the quality of organic synthesis. His expertise has helped expand the department’s research scope and implement numerous innovative projects. He has also been listed among the top 2% of scientists globally in an international evaluation, highlighting his prominent scientific standing. Professor Taherpour serves as the head of the National Elites Foundation in Kermanshah Province.
Dr. Mohammad Jafarzadeh, associate professor in Organic Chemistry, conducts extensive research in the field, including pharmaceutical and environmental chemistry. He has contributed significantly to applied research through national and international projects and plays a vital role in mentoring new generations of research students. His technical knowledge and valuable experience have consistently elevated the Department’s educational and research standards. Dr. Jafarzadeh cwas listed among the top 2% of the most cited researchers worldwide in 2024, based on Scopus data.
The Department also honors its esteemed retired professors who have played a major role in its academic, educational, and research development, leaving a valuable scientific legacy for future generations:
Professor Mohammad Mehdi Khodaei, a retired professor and a renowned figure in organic chemistry both nationally and in the Islamic world, has significantly contributed to the scientific progress of Razi University. In addition to his extensive research, he served as the university president for two terms (1993-1998 and 2007-2014) and was recognized as a top scientist in the Islamic world in 2018. That same year, he was listed among the top 1% of most cited scientists globally according to ISI, underscoring his international scientific stature. He also served for several years as a science and technology advisor to the governorship of Kermanshah, applying his valuable experience to regional development. His scientific, managerial, and educational contributions have been widely praised by the academic community.
Dr. Farhat Sadat Meybodi, another retired member of the department, played a key role in enhancing its academic level and training students through years of research and teaching. Her dedication to diverse scientific projects and continuous instruction has helped advance various areas of organic chemistry, earning her recognition as a pioneer in the field.
Dr. Nasrin Rezaei, a long-standing and active member of the department, has made significant contributions to its educational and research development through her extensive experience in organic chemistry. Her involvement in both research and teaching, along with participation in various scientific projects, has helped expand the boundaries of knowledge in this discipline.
The presence of these distinguished scholars is a source of pride for the Organic Chemistry Department at Razi University. Their scientific and educational legacy continues to guide future generations of researchers at the university and across the country. By sharing their knowledge, experience, and scientific values, they have created a strong foundation for student and faculty growth and have played a fundamental role in shaping the Department’s academic identity.
